Dave Grohl made a shock revelation last night that he cheated on his wife of 20 years Jordyn Blum and recently fathered a baby with another woman.
The Foo Fighters frontman, 55, took to Instagram and announced he’s ‘recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage.’
He continued: ‘I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.
‘I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.’
Dave concluded: ‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.’
Having married in 2003, Dave and Jordyn share three children together – Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10 – who have since seemingly deactivated their social media accounts.
But while Grohl is often thought to be the steadiest nice guy in rock n’ roll, he has cheated in the past and has had a number of relationships over his almost four-decade career since Nirvana formed in 1987.
Before settling down with his wife Jordyn, Dave was linked with Veruca Salt’s Louise Post, L7’s Jennifer Finch, snowboarder Tina Basich – and has also had a rumoured romance with Winona Ryder, and denied having rumoured relations with Christina Aguilera.
Here is the inside scoop on Dave Grohl’s past relationships and cheating scandals.
Jennifer Finch
Dave was romantically involved with bassist Jennifer Finch, who was part of L7 – a Los Angeles-based hard rock band that formed in the mid-1980s.
They were said to have been an item for a short time in the early 1990s.
In a 2016 documentary L7: Pretend We’re Dead Jennifer described Nirvana blowing up and her being around Dave at the time.
Reflecting on their break up, she said: ‘Everywhere I go, everywhere I turn I see this f***ing face. Frankly I’m sick of it.’
Jennifer’s former Sugar Babylon bandmate Courtney Love also famously married Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain.
Dave Grohl’s first wife Jennifer Youngblood
Prior to Dave and Jordyn’s marriage, the former Nirvana star tied the knot with photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1994.
However, they split just two years later before their official divorce came through in 1997, with Dave later admitting to cheating, according to The Guardian.
The publication wrote in an interview with Dave in 2007 that ‘admitted infidelities’ had led to their divorce.
It continued: ‘[This] caused the departure from the Foo Fighters ranks of Pat Smear, latterly Nirvana’s auxiliary guitarist and a close friend of Youngblood.’
Grohl and Smear later reconciled.
Dave previously opened up on his split in 1999 while speaking with Melody Maker, as per The Mirror, as he said: ‘I was 25, my wife was even younger. We weren’t ready to get married.
‘I miss her a tonne, she’s the funniest goddamn weirdo you ever met in your life. Absolutely adorable. It would have been better had we not got married. But you live and you learn.’
Louise Post
After his first marriage, rocker Dave was linked to the Veruca Salt singer Louise Post for a year.
According to the Daily Mail, this came to an end as Louise accused him of cheating on her in an on-stage moment in Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that he left her for Winona Ryder. Louise told them in a 2003 interview: ‘People definitely read things into my songs. In interviews, any mention of him pisses me off.
‘It was a private relationship, but it got so much publicity. I didn’t mean for it to happen. I’m friends with him now.’
Louise previously also reflected on the on-stage moment, as she told The Musicin 2018: ‘I just found out my boyfriend at the time was cheating on me, so I was just publicly falling apart all over Australian stages.’
Her vocals are used alongside Grohl’s for the hit song Everlong, recorded through a phone call, as the lyrics go: ‘If everything could ever be this real forever,
If anything could ever be this good again.’
In Disconnected by Veruca Salt – written by Louise and released in 2000 – the lyrics go: ‘It’s kind of scary when your lover leaves you for a movie star / But I’m still in the dark / But you have trained to watch my back and drop my standards / And you have shamed me since the first time you were with her / And you can’t make me love your band or buy your records / Cause you have tainted my respect for your adventures.’
Tina Basich
As per TMZ, snowboarding pioneer Tina Basich and Dave dated for two years in the late 1990s.
The publication reports that she claimed Dave cheated on her in her 2003 memoir, Pretty Good for a Girl: The Autobiography of a Snowboarding Pioneer.
‘I don’t know how anyone in his profession can have a normal relationship with a girlfriend…or two, as it turned out. I found out secondhand, through the grapevine, when it seemed like everyone else in the world knew about it but me,’ she wrote, according to the US publication.
‘Breakups suck. But Rockstar exits are the worst. All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of me calling and trying to get ahold of him because I just had to know if these rumours were true and had to hear it straight from the source.’
She claimed she received ‘nothing’ from Grohl as he ‘dropped off the planet’ – yet was ‘everywhere else’ on posters and through speakers in her day-to-day life.
The athlete claimed Dave was busy signing multi-million dollar record deals and making music, and the pressure was too much for their relationship to endure.
Melissa Auf der Maur
Dave also dated former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur, from 1999 to 2001.
Reflecting on the relationship, Melissa toldSirius XM’sFierce: Women In Musicprogramme: ‘We were very similar and in many ways, I think our roles in Hole andNirvana[are] what subconsciously pushed us together.’
She explained: ‘I was just leaving Hole [and] entering this sort of like farewell finale tour with the Pumpkins. Dave was just rising up with the Foo Fighters and we had this beautiful compatible couple of years where, I mean, we were madly in love.’
The pair ended amicably as their careers went in different directions.
‘It was all love,’ the Canadian recalled. ‘[I] wanted to retreat from the ginormous corporate hell that our music scene had become, and he was not finished yet and had some more proving or ambitions or business to do.’
Melissa added: ‘It was purely like, “I love you and I want you to go do what you wanna do and you love me and you want me to go do [the same]”. And it was simple and very clear.”
Dave meets Jordyn Blum in 2001
Dave and Jordyn largely keep their relationship out of the public eye, but are understood to have met in 2001 at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey in West Hollywood.
In one of his quite rare comments about their relationship, Grohl revealed that they almost didn’t get together.
‘When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,’ he shared in a 2007 interviewwith Elle.
‘After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, “Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again”.’
Jordyn was previously a teen model and worked as a TV producer.
She is thought to have been working for MTV when she met her now-husband.
